When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world. -John Muir

Living Green

How do you live green? By going green people think they have to sacrifice their time, sometimes their comfort, and do things a little more different that one would like. That is not the truth. Majority of companies out there are going green. The construction company across the street displays they build “greener” houses. LighterSaferGreener.com. makes sunglasses our of recycled materials. Also have you seen those cute purses made out of juice boxes or plastic containers? Be creative about it. Reuse your items if you can.

Here are some ways my immediate and extended family reuses, and recycles.

We have a compost bin out back. We throw in eggs, banana peels, food, and any veggie matter and newspaper to have soil to put around our plants.

when my grandmother goes fishing, she takes the heads of the fish and puts them in ground next to the plant to fertilize them better. (tomatoes grow huge like this)

Old egg shells make a great barrier around rose bushes, the ants get blinded by them and other little bugs and they don’t crawl up the stems.

We don’t use harmful chemicals around the house to clean. We all mainly use vinegar and water. We also let the dishes soak in warm water and get the baked off stuff the next day.

We have a recycling bin for cans, plastics, and one for the other garbage.

We don’t throw away our old clothes or ones we don’t like anymore or cant fit. We all make sure to find a good home for them, especially the ones we have outgrown.

We dont use paper towels or paper plates anymore. They create a huge waste!

I try to buy items with less packaging and that means in bulk majority of the time.

When I go shopping, I carry my own bags with me. If I do get plastic bags, they end up lining my little trash cans for liners.

Here are just a few tips from me!
